Olentangy Swim Association (OSA) is proud to offer many new and improved opportunities for swimmers ages 6months through adult, in all areas of swim progress, to continue to grow and build their skills and be safe in and around the water.

Course Descriptions

Program: SWIM WITH ME – Child/Parent

Class Name: Swim With Me

Age: For ages 6 months thru 3 years, accompanied by adult. 

Description: Introduction to the water and fundamental safety and aquatics skills. 

Details: Children learn swim readiness skills like blowing bubbles and floating.  Adults learn the importance of supervision in an aquatics environment as well as how to help their child explore the water safely using age appropriate teaching methods. 

Prerequisite: Adult must be comfortable entering/exiting water without assistance and willing put face/eyes under water.

Program: PRESCHOOL

Class Name: Preschool 1 (age 3-5)

Age: Age 3 – Kindergarten (Fall start)

Description: Introduction to the water and fundamental safety and aquatics skills.

Details: Gives new swimmers the opportunity to become acclimated and comfortable in the water without a parent.  Introduces basic self-rescue skills, blowing bubbles, floating, glides, and safe water exploration.

Prerequisite: Child must be potty trained and willing to work in water without parent.

Class Name: Preschool 2 (age 3-5)

Age: 3 thru Kindergarten (Fall start)

Description: Using skills learned in Preschool 1, children progress towards being more independent in the water.  Introduces more breath control skills, floats, and forward locomotion. 

Prerequisite: Child must be potty trained and able to enter/exit the water independently and voluntarily.

Program: BEGINNER BASICS

Class Name: Beginner Basic (age 5-9)

Age:  At least 5 years old – entering 1st grade in the Fall.  Suggest Kindergarteners complete Preschool levels first.

Description: Introduction to the water and fundamental safety and aquatics skills.

Details: Gives new swimmers the opportunity to become acclimated and comfortable in the water without a parent.  Introduces basic self-rescue skills, blowing bubbles, floating, glides, and safe water exploration.

Prerequisite: Child must be willing to work in water without a parent.

Class Name: Beginner Basic (age 10-14)

Age: 10-14

Description: Introduction to the water and fundamental safety and aquatics skills.

Details: Gives new swimmers the opportunity to become acclimated and comfortable in the water in an age appropriate environment.  Introduces basic self-rescue skills, breath control, floating, glides, and safe water exploration.

Prerequisite: Swimmer must be willing to enter/exit water unassisted.  Older students who need help overcoming anxiety/fear of the water should consider private lessons first.

Class Name: Beginner Basic (age 15 – Adult)

Age 15+

Description: Introduction to the water and fundamental safety and aquatics skills.

Details: Gives new swimmers the opportunity to become acclimated and comfortable in the water in an age appropriate environment.  Introduces basic self-rescue skills, breath control, floating, glides, and safe water exploration.

Prerequisite: Swimmer must be willing to enter/exit water unassisted.  Older students who need help overcoming anxiety/fear of the water should consider private lessons first.

Program Name: BEYOND BASICS

Class Name: Beyond Basics (age 5-9)

Age: At least 5 years old – entering 1st grade in the Fall.

Descriptions: Using skills learned in Elementary 1, children progress towards independence in the water.  Introduces self- rescue skills, forward locomotion, floats, basic strokes, breath control.

Prerequisite: Child must able to exit water independently and go under water voluntarily.

Class Name: Intermediate (age 5-9)

Age: At least 5 years old, entering 1st grade in the Fall

Description: Continues to progress basic stroke technique in front crawl/back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke. 

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim independently 10 yards, do a front/back float unsupported, and retrieve an object in chest deep water.

Class Name: Intermediate (age 10-14)

Age: 10-14

Description: Using skills learned in Beginner Basics 1 (age 10-14), students progress towards independence in the water and learn self-rescue skills, forward locomotion, breath control,  basic stroke technique in front crawl/back crawl and, treading water and elementary backstroke. 

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim independently 10 yards, do a front/back float unsupported, and retrieve an object in chest deep water.

Class Name: Advanced/Pre-Team

Age: At least 6 years old, entering 2nd grade in the Fall

Description: Stroke mechanics and refinement

Details: Introduces butterfly, breaststroke, sidestroke and reinforces water safety for self and others.  Great for swimmers interested in becoming part of the Tangy Tornadoes swim team, but would like evaluation &/or extra help prior to season start.

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim front/back crawl independently for 15 yards and tread water for 1 minute.

Program Name: PRIVATE LESSONS

Age: 5 & up

Description: Private lessons can be reserved online one at a time or in greater quantitites to reserve the time that's most convenienct for you.  Great options for swimmers who, among many things, wish to work though swimming anxiety, want extra help with a stroke/skill, or simply prefer a one-on-one experience.  The instructor will communicate with you in advance to prepare for lesson and tailor the lesson to suit student's needs.  At this time, instructors will be assigned to private lessons based on availibility.  If you wish to request a specific instructor, or if you have a student with special needs, please contact the swim lesson program manager.

Weekday morning sessions are Monday through Thursday for 2 weeks, for 30 minutes.  Weekday evening class times are currently set aside for Private Lessons only.

*NEW* Saturday Morning Session meets for 30 minutes, for a total of 8 Saturdays.  Saturday session is the perfect solution for working parents!

 

Class fees
OSA Members: $75.00 per child per session
Non-members: $85.00 per child per session
